Jeff & Robin both win and Luke sets Juvenile 100 record
Robin Coomber of Chippenham Wheelers won the Weston Whs 10 mile timetrial on Saturday 14th August 2010 on the Axbridge course in a very fast 20:24, only 4 secs short of the course record beating Rob Pears of Bath CC (20:38). The event was delayed due to heavy traffic at the turn and a downpour but led to good conditions once the event started. Steve Barber also rode and did 24:53.
Very very early on Sunday morning was the districts WTTA annual 100 mile timetrial held on the dual carriageway at Cirencester. A 5:30am start is a bit of a shock but seasoned time-triallists get used to it. The weather forecast had predicted a North-East wind which was not a good direction for the course meaning a head-on wind on the climb to the top turn. Many riders must have realised this and didn't start. After a lap or two, many more found it hard going and retired (16 DNF).
But inspite of the conditions, 39 riders made it to the finish with Chippenham's Jeff Jones taking first place in a time of 3:48:38 (7 mins slower than last year due to conditions). Luke Davies at only 15 years of age did a brilliant ride to set a Juvenile club record with a time of 4:43:56. He was set a target of 4:45:00 by the organiser in order to gain £10 and rode a good even pace to achieve. Considering the conditions, he arrived at the finish looking fresh, so a good future prospect for long distance time-trialling.
A further four Chippenham riders finished. Times were:
- Steve Ayres 4:22:06
- Gordon Scott 4:23:47
- Rob Richardson 4:25:49
- Neil Davies 4:55:22
Chippenham also took the team prize with Jeff, Steve and Gordon.
