Tour of Britain Pro-ride - sponsorship opportunity

On Sunday 5th September, an 11 man team from Chippenham Wheelers will be riding the Tour of Britain Pro Ride, this is 175km (110 miles) between Minehead and Teignmouth and will involve 3200m of climbing. This is exactly the same route that the professional cyclists will be doing as stage four of this years Tour of Britain.

The Chippenham Wheelers team have decided to seek sponsorship for this ride. We understand that we do lots of rides each year and we are actually quite good at riding a bike (most of the time). Riding 100 miles for us is not difficult like running or snooker or standing on one leg. The ride is however for a very good cause, the Prostate Cancer Charity.

In reading more about prostate cancer, the statistics are scary. Whilst other forms of cancer receive large amounts of publicity and funding, the prostate form appears to struggle for attention. Some facts: 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year in the UK. 10,000 men die of the disease each year in the UK – that’s one man every hour.

So the sponsorship net has been cast open to friends, family, work collegues and now fellow club members. As of today, the Chippenham Wheelers team is ranked 15th in the sponsorship leaderboard. Since when have the Wheelers ever settled for a mere 15th!

So please visit our fundraising page at http://www.prostatecancercharity.org.uk/chippenhamwheelers and donate what you can. Don't forget gift aid tick boxes too.

Ride report to follow next week.
