Audax Series 2024 – Update & Provisional Results

We’ve now held 4 of our 7 audaxes in this year’s series, which are proving to be as popular as ever. Perhaps it’s the attraction of all those hills? Or maybe just the chance to ride in good company? 40 of us turned out to ride April’s Kennet Hop 125km Audax on a lovely spring day. Everyone seemed to be smiling, particularly after the hilly morning section, perhaps not realising there would be a headwind all the way home from Sticks and Stones. Extra kudos go to Rob Duncumb for tackling the hilly ride on his lovely new fixed gear bike. The practice of faster riders setting off first and pushing ahead is helping to ease the queues at the cafe stops, so we’d like to continue with that when we get such large turnouts. We always contact the cafes in advance and give them a rough idea of numbers, which they do appreciate as they sometimes bring in extra staff to cope. Early sign-ups for the rides are much appreciated too, as it helps the organiser forewarn the cafes. As you may have noticed we’ve been gradually introducing new names for our Club Audax routes. Next up on 12th May is our 150km Audax, The Wylye Wander…….a change from our traditional route but one we think you’ll like. Details will be published in the club calendar 1-2 weeks beforehand. Provisional results to date for club members are listed in the table below. Medals are awarded at the end of the season for total distances ridden over 4+ audaxes. Bronze for more than 350km, Silver for more than 500km and Gold for more than 750km. Congratulations to the 14 members who have already achieved Bronze by riding all 4 events to date. With the 150km, 175km and 200km rides still to come there is the potential to complete another 525km before the season is over to earn a Bronze, Silver or even Gold medal. Please do check your name in the results table further below and let us know if any updates are needed. Email Sheni through leisureride@chippenhamwheelers.org If you can’t make the date but would still like to ride the route and have it count towards your medal award then remember you can do this by helping to check the route for us as a helper’s ride in the 2 weeks before the event – just get in touch with Sheni first.
