Club Newsletter – March 2019

Club Newsletter – March 2019

7 Mar 2019 By Richard Buckley

Skittles

The skittles night held on 23rd February was a fun and well attended event. Eager children stacking the skittles allowed a good pace of play throughout the evening. Real fish and chips from Buckles in Chippenham hit the spot and not a moment too soon. Well done social team for organising.

Spinning

Advanced note that he popular Monday night spinning sessions continue through March with the exception of 11th when no class will be run. These sessions are really hard work so I am sure it will be double effort the following week. Calendar has been updated.

Castle Combe sessions

With some slightly lighter evenings and the promise of the clocks going forward at the end of March we can look forward to the Tuesday night sessions at Castle Combe which start on April 9th. A reminder that this is not exclusively a Chippenham Wheelers club event but open to all cyclists, ages and abilities. The club will run some group training sessions probably from May through to the end of summer. These usually start at 18:30. Take a look here for general information on registration and procedures on the night.

Audax series

Following the success of the 75km Audax (new route, new cafe stop), we continue the series on March 17th with the 100km route. A sort of figure of eight around Brinkworth Village Hall for a stop on the way out and the way back. The club is looking for a few volunteers for this event as follows:

  • A couple of people to assist with signing on at the Sports and Social Club for the start.
  • A few to help out with the arrangements at Brinkworth Village Hall.

Please contact Mark Otridge at audax@chippenhamwheelers.org if you can assist.

Finally on the topic of the Audax, please note a change in date for the 150km route in May. This is now a week earlier on 12th May. Club calendar has been updated, please update yours.

Wednesday night socials

Club night has traditionally been on a Wednesday night where you can talk about bikes, about the rides just done and the rides coming up, you get the picture. At the new club room, these evenings are increasingly popular with a steady flow of members there for a drink and a natter. All members always welcome.

That’s your  March news. Whatever and wherever you ride, ride safe.
