The grand finale and seventh of our series of audax rides for 2025. Our traditional ride to the seaside for a fish and chip lunch! The route this year has been changed to include the new Pier to Pier Way between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare, cutting out several miles of the busy A370 that we had to ride on previously. The route still includes the iconic climb up Cheddar Gorge but then heads out to Yoxter. We have also included the newly extended section of the tranquil Colliers Way cycle path. The route has been tweaked in a few places to keep the distance just over 200km so you can complete a full randonnée.
Hazards: please look out for gravel and potholes at all times, particularly on downhill sections and at junctions and call them out to warn riders behind you. Take extra care when going into the shade where your eyes may not adjust quickly enough to see rough surfaces in front of you, especially if wearing dark sunglasses. A few specific hazards have been marked on the RWGPS route and cuesheet with warning symbols – make sure you study these in advance of the ride.
Cafe stops:
Salt and Malt at Chew Valley Lake 57km: opens at 9.30am
Weston-super-Mare at 105km: grab some take-away fish and chips or whatever you fancy. We usually sit around the grassy banks opposite the Grand Pier. Beware the seagulls! Last year at one Wheeler lost his fish to a cheeky gull!
Chilcompton Texaco petrol station at 147km. For the proper audax experience, we’ve been stopping here for years as it has a shop with cold drinks, ice creams, coffee machine and a WC inside.
There are other optional refreshment stops shown on the RWGPS route at:
110km public WCs on your left as you ride through Bleadon
115km Frankie Howerd Community Cafe – handy for a quick coffee or ice-cream and has a WC
Finally, for an end of Audax Series celebratory drink come upstairs to the bar at Chippenham Sports Club. You’ll have earned one by then!
Entry fee for club members £1 (non-members £3). Please bring the exact change to drop in our container at the start. We can also take cashless payment now.

The registration desk will be open from 7.10am onwards by the tennis courts. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start.
If you can’t make the date but would still like to ride the route and have it count towards your medal award then remember you can do this by helping to check the route for us as a helper’s ride before the event – but please contact Sheni in advance.

The form is a mandatory for all riders, so the organiser knows who and how many to expect and so we have a record of everyone riding on the day. Your cooperation to complete this in advance of the ride will be much appreciated. It also means we can email you if there is any change in the ride information or cancellation. There is no need to notify us if you subsequently change your mind and decide not to ride, but a short email to the address below will ensure your name is taken off the list.
Experienced riders are asked to help keep the groups to a manageable size on the road.
