The grand finalé of our Audax Series – a full 200km randonnée. It’s our annual trip to the seaside for Fish & Chips by the Grand Pier at Weston Super-mare.
The route takes us out to our morning stop at Salt and Malt café right next to Chew Valley Lake. The route then takes us past Bristol Airport for a super descent down to the levels. It’s easy riding from here until just before Clevedon, but the short climb is worth it for the views of its Victorian pier. There’s more easy riding across the levels to Yatton railway station where we briefly pick up the Strawberry Line cycle path.
After a short section of the A370 we head across more levels through Wick St Lawrence and take the Kewstoke Road passing the old Birnbeck Pier and onto the seafront at Weston-super-Mare. We stop for lunch right opposite the Grand Pier. Get yourself a takeway from any of the fish and chip shops and sit outside on the grass bank near the fountain.
After lunch we leave Weston via Uphill, heading east to Axbridge and into and up through Cheddar Gorge with its impressive limestone cliffs. It’s a steady climb up to the top of the Mendips. In proper audax style we’ll take a brief rest at the petrol station in Chilcompton before dropping down to Kilmersdon where we join the beautifully serene Colliers Way for a few kms before turning towards home.
Arrivee will be at the Harp and Crown Inn, Gastard. Weather permitting we’ll be in the pub garden at the rear, or in the bar area if not. Everyone is welcome to stop for a drink to round off our Audax series in appropriate style!
Please note we are not issuing brevet cards this year (except for Fletcher’s Flapjack) so we assume you complete the route in the set time shown on the RWGPS route, unless you advise the organiser.
Entry fee for club members £1 (non-members £2) and it’s exact cash only please.

The form is a mandatory for all riders, so the organiser knows who and how many to expect and so we have a record of everyone riding on the day. Your cooperation to complete this in advance of the ride will be much appreciated. It also means we can email you if there is any change in the ride information or cancellation. There is no need to notify us if you subsequently change your mind and decide not to ride, but a short email to the address below will ensure your name is taken off the list.
Experienced riders are asked to help keep the groups to a manageable size on the road.
The registration desk will be open from 7.10am onwards by the tennis courts. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the start.
