Structured group riding at Castle Combe

WHEN: July 29 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
CATEGORY: Training ride
EVENT ORGANISER:
START LOCATION: Castle Combe Race Circuit

The club would like to invite members to an hour of structured group riding to take place at the Castle Combe Tuesday night sessions. Group sizes and speed will largely depend on who turns up on the night and the weather conditions. Please note there is no specific organiser for these rides. Experienced club members are asked to take the lead in organising the groups, to set a steady and controlled pace according to the group’s ability, so the group can stay together for as long as possible.

Format would be to turn up in club kit at 18:30 at the lay-by near the Avon Tyres arch. We would form small groups and do an hours steady 2-up riding trying to maintain a consistent effort. Techniques like through and off, and echelon will be practiced depending on the conditions.

This has worked informally in previous years with a lot of laps being covered much faster that you might do solo. You also get to have a good natter with your club mates as you ride round. Get used to holding many conversations at once as you are always interrupted by a change at the front.

If you’d like to learn how to ride safely in a structured group then it is a brilliant opportunity where experienced club members will guide and support. everyone is welcome regardless of cycling experience or ability!

Meet back at the lay-by at 7.30pm for a quick debrief on the session before heading home or doing some warm-down laps.

Note you’ll need to pre-register to ride on the circuit at https://andycookcycling.com/castle-combe-tuesdays/ and pay per session each evening.

Important – please make sure you wear a Chippenham Wheelers club jersey or gilet – this is important so other riders on the circuit recognise we are running an organised group session.
