Structured group training ride (AKA Chain Gang)

WHEN: February 29 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
CATEGORY: Training ride
EVENT ORGANISER:
START LOCATION: Chippenham cemetery gates
RIDE DISTANCE: 40 MILES
ROUTE: RIDE WITH GPS – Structured group training ride (AKA Chain Gang)

Good paced group ride on a set 40 mile loop around the villages to the north of Chippenham. Starting and finishing in Chippenham itself, the ride is typically split into groups based on numbers and ability. Faster groups are completing the ride with an average speed of 18 to 20mph. Steadier groups are more in the range 16 to 18mph. No stops but plenty of options for shortening the route if required. Format is riding two abreast with front riders “taking a turn” before switching over and next riders coming up the left hand side to join the front. Mudguards essential in anything but dry weather. Bring enough liquid and food to consume as required in the saddle.

There is no nominated ride leader for this event, senior/experienced riders on the day tend to take the lead.

See /club-activities/weekend-rides/chain-ganging for more information on the format.
