Chippenham Wheelers ran two successful events over the weekend of 7th and 8th October.
On Saturday we had the Open Hill Climb up Bowden Hill with HQ in Lacock. Weather conditions were awful but 29 riders including three Chippenham Wheelers thought racing uphill was a great idea. 1st place went to James Hayward of Woolwich CC in a time of 4 minutes 29. Fastest Wheeler was Hannah Slade with 5 minutes 12.
Many members will be aware that the event organiser Nick Ferris suffered a serious accident about six weeks ago, badly damaging his knee. We wish Nick a smooth and speedy recovery.
On Sunday, the very popular 3-up 20 mile time trial took place for the 37th year running. HQ was in Bishops Cannings with route going anti-clockwise to Devizes, Upavon, Woodborough, Alton Barnes, Horton, etc. With 114 rides registered and lots of junctions on the course to marshal, this was going to be a busy one. Fastest time was Kilsby, Streather, Parker of Velo Club St Raphael with 45 minutes 45. Fastest Vet/Ladies/Junior/Youth/Composite team was Sherrin, Barr, Hosie with 48 minutes 41. Fastest Wheelers (full) team was Collins, Moxham, Grabowski with 51 minutes 42. Cake eating contest was won by our club secretary ๐
Thanks to Salt and Sham CC for their continued valuable support and Chippenham Wheelers rose to the challenge from last year and had more teams enter.
Neither of these events could have taken place without the work of the volulenteer event organisers and without the support of the many members who gave up their mornings to time-keep, marshal, serve tea and cake, organise parking, registration, recorders, traffic counters, etc. The commitee thanks everyone involved in the making these events a success.
