White Horse Weekend – Help Required!

Dear Club Member, Following on from the initial request for help, several of you have kindly offered your support and we will be in touch very soon with specific tasks. Just to re cap… On the weekend of 5th/6th/7th April 2019, Chippenham Wheelers are hosting the White Horse Weekend, a relaxed gathering of cyclists from across the UK, featuring leisurely rides, social get-togethers, and plenty of tea and cake. This tri-annual event started way back in the 1970s but – just like so many things in life – gets better with age, and we hope to carry on that tradition for this year’s event. We circulate the WHW information to cycling clubs locally and nationally and get plenty of visitors from many parts of the country joining us. So far we have received over 50 bookings from cyclists from around the country. Club members who prefer not to be involved with helping, but still wish to take part in the rides and socials must register in order to assist with catering numbers etc. We have set up an online booking site to make this process easier and less time consuming: https://www.riderhq.com/events/83942/white-horse-weekend Many people arrive on Friday evening at the HQ for the weekend – Chippenham Sports & Social Club (CSSC) – we have exclusive use of the Bowls Pavilion for the weekend, with the bar available Friday and Saturday evenings, and space in the parking area for visitor’s camper vans. Friday evening we open for registration from 6pm. There will be tea and cake on offer, plus the bar of course. On the Saturday, participants meet at the event HQ in before setting off for rides of varying distances. Fuelled up by bacon rolls, tea and cake, riders can follow a choice of 3 routes in the local lanes in a roughly westerly direction, for a lunch stop in Old Sodbury. Tea and cake will be available at the Event HQ on return from the ride. Saturday evening’s entertainment include a pasta supper and a quiz. Sunday’s rides set off from the HQ, all aiming north and converging at Charlton Village Hall for more tea and cake, before returning to the HQ for late lunch. As you can see there are a few tasks that need covering! Whilst we have already received offers of help, it would be great to have some more volunteers to help with some of the other tasks – we don’t expect you to give up the entire weekend, but offer maybe some catering help on one of the days, cake making, ride leading, help clearing up at the end on Sunday, that kind of thing. Below are the tasks that need covering:  Friday evening – set up hall, registration desk – Chippenham Sports & Social Club (CSSC) 5-8pm Friday evening – CSSC – help with tea/coffee Saturday morning – CSSC – help with tea/coffee, making bacon butties pre-ride Saturday lunch – Old Sodbury Village Hall – help with catering, ploughman’s lunch, tea & coffee Saturday tea – CSSC – tea/coffee/cake Saturday supper – CSSC – help with catering, washing-up etc Sunday morning – CSSC – tea/coffee pre-ride Sunday morning – Charlton Village Hall – tea/coffee/cake Sunday late lunch – CSSC – help with catering, lunches, tea/coffee Sunday afternoon – CSSC – clear & tidy-up hall If you’ve never done anything like this before, don’t worry, we will put you with an experienced helper so you won’t be expected to do it all on your own! We look forward to hearing from you with offers of help – the more the merrier – for what is a very social weekend of cycling. Any questions, please email: jacqui.cook@chippenhamwheelers.org Yours hopefully, Jacqui & Andy
