Our audax series has lived up to its name this year, requiring some courageous spirit to complete the rides. The 50km ride in January was beset by freezing conditions and then the 75km had an unforgiving headwind coming home. The 100km was hit with cold, wet conditions resulting in several DNFs, “Chapeau” to the twelve hard riders who toughed it out to the finish. In the midst of all this our Flapjack Open event was paid an unwelcome visit by Storm Ciara, resulting in an unprecedented cancellation. And then we had a lockdown!!
Taking everything into account we’ve decided to run just one more audax to round off the series this year, the 125km Audax, details below.
Club Audax Medals
For those of you chasing a prestigious Club Audax Medal this year we’ve decided to award these to anyone completing 3 out of 4 of the rides this year, rather than the usual 4 out of 6. Provisional results are listed below. Some keen audaxers have already completed 3. If you’ve completed 2 then you’ve still got a chance of earning your medal by completing the 125km Audax!
125km Audax – Sunday 20th September
Our 125km Audax will follow a completely new route which includes approx 18km of unpaved surfaces, on cycle paths and by-ways, which were easily rideable on a conventional road bike with 25mm tyres when we tested it during lockdown. We think you’ll enjoy something a bit different! The route will take you along the old Chiseldon to Marlborough railway line (now a cyclepath) and the Grand Avenue by-way through the heart of Savernake Forest.

Audax Shield Update
Audax ride distances have taken a big hit this year, following the suspension of Audax UK events during the lockdown. The good news is that AUK recently announced the resumption of open events (currently up to 300km) and have extended the season to 31st October, so there’s still plenty of time to clock up those kilometres. All AUK validated rides (and our own audax series) count towards our club’s annual Audax Shield competition. Current standings are below.
