WHEN: 20/09/2020 8:30 am
CATEGORY: Club Audax
EVENT ORGANISER: Sheni Jiwa
START LOCATION: Chippenham Rugby Club
RIDE DISTANCE: 80 MILES
ROUTE: RIDE WITH GPS - 125km Audax – Savernake via Roads ***8.30am start***

*** UPDATE 15th Sept ***
Following a route check we have decided to provide TWO route options for this ride, A125.21 and A125.22. Both routes will use the NCN482 cyclepath from Chiseldon to Marlborough, but then the A125.22 route will follow a rough gravel byway through Savernake Forest whilst the other A125.21 route will keep to roads. If you are not confident riding on rough gravel then please follow the easier “roads” option route A125.21.

The A125.22 “gravel” route also includes a short section of gravel byway between Bishops Cannings and Heddington. If you want to follow the “gravel” option you should use suitable, wider tyres. It’s possible to ride on 25mm tyres but the wider you can use the better.

The route below is for the easier Savernake via Roads option. See the calendar for the alternative Gravel option.

You will get a choice of 3 cafes to stop along both routes which are shown on the maps. There is no-one to check you in at each control or at the finish, but you do need to pass by each control point and complete min 125km distance in the allotted time for the ride to count.

Please study the routesheet for your selected route, even if you don’t plan to use it as it has important information for your safety and enjoyment of the ride – links below.

*****

As we come out of COVID-19 lock down, this is our fourth and final audax in the 2020 club series. Note that this is a slightly longer route than the usual Sunday leisure ride.

This is a completely new route which includes 11km of NCN cyclepath and an alternative route option with 7km of rough gravel by-ways. Both routes are suitable for road bikes but wider, suitable tyres are recommended for the gravel route option. Both  routes will take you along the old Chiseldon to Marlborough railway line (now a cyclepath) after which they diverge for a few miles through Savernake Forest, before re-joining in Great Bedwyn. The gravel route follows the Grand Avenue by-way through the heart of the forest. We think you’ll enjoy something a bit different!

Route Sheets will not be issued at the start – if you require one please print one from here when it has been uploaded.
