We had a record 148 riders set-off last Sunday 16th March and only 4 DNFs. Adding in those who did our helpers ride we have a total of 156 validated finishers. The results are now up on the Audax UK website.
After a chilly start the sun shone for the riders and when they turned left at Siddington that annoying headwind turned into a helpful tailwind.
Two of our regulars amused us by additionally riding to Brinkworth Village Hall (last year’s 1st control) before realising they were supposed to ride to Charlton Village Hall for their flapjacks, but they made it and still finished the ride in a very good time.
The riders collectively managed to consume 144 flapjacks, 448 slices of cake, 31kg of baked beans and 279 slices of toast. A truly impressive performance!
Thanks to everyone’s generosity we collected over £475 in donations for our club charity Doorway Wiltshire, to help homeless and marginalised people in our area. It will go some way to repairing the flood damage they suffered in the winter.
We had a blast running the event, which wouldn’t be possible without the energy and enthusiasm of our amazing helpers, to whom we’re incredibly grateful for giving up their time to help year after year.
