Hardriders 2026

On 1st March, 40 riders braved the wet conditions on the grippy Chippenham Wheelers’ Hardriders Time Trial event.

The course rolls its way from Marshfield down the A420, turning off to pass through Yatton Keynell and Castle Combe, before heading over the draggy road to Tormarton and back towards Marshfield.

Unfortunately, over-running roadworks meant the course had to be shortened to 18 miles the day before. Most riders though were thankful that meant they did not have to make the two ascents of the punchy “Muur van Marshfield” aka Shire Hill, but still had the climb out of Ford to contend with. It also meant that in the words of one competitor “I didn’t expect an audax as well as a TT” as there was a reasonably long circuitous route to get back to the HQ for much needed hot coffee and cake.

Peter Iffland (49:14), James Ecclestone (43:32) and Matt Chapple (40:12) all represented the club. Friend of the club and Wednesday night TT regular, Jamie Richardson-Paige (41:32) also took part. Fastest rider overall was Oscar Hutchings, Team Tor 2000, 37:07.

What was particularly pleasing was that we had four riders in the youth and junior categories, all but one on road bikes, which is helping to make the sport more accessible.

With many thanks to Sue Andrews (Timekeeper), LisaJayne Booth (finish official), Paul Freegard (HQ), Peter Iffland (catering), Simon Cox and Robbie Richardson (start officials) for all their help on the day. Martin and Helen Priestley also supported as Marshalls.

If that has whetted your appetite, then the club will be running its Wednesday night TT programme from Wednesday 1st April, all are welcome and if it is your first time you are guaranteed a Personal Best.
