Sheldon School Cycling Festival – Saturday 11 July 2015
Our Club has been invited to attend a cycling festival organised by Sheldon School for pupils and their friends and families. This will take place on Saturday 11 July at 10:30.
Sheldon, former school of both our Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer (*), is keen to develop links with local clubs and organisations. The intention is to run the festival as an annual event.
We are keen to support the school and plan to have a Wheelers information stand and run a cycle skills session on the day. Some pupils may wish to increase their participation in cycling and join our club which would be good news for all concerned.
If any members are able to spend an hour or two helping out on the morning of the 11th at the school please get in touch. Contact Simon via secretary@chippenhamwheelers.org or pop into the club room on a Wednesday evening.

Daffodil Weekend – Ledbury CTC, 27 to 29 March
Hello Everybody,
This email is advance notice that Ledbury CTC are pleased to announce that they have taken over the mantle of the annual West Country weekend from Ross-on-Wye and will be hosting a Daffodil Weekend.
Dates – 27 – 29 March, Friday evening through Sunday lunchtime
Base: Much Marcle Memorial Hall, HR8 2LY
The Ledbury and Newent area is renowned for its beautiful wild daffodils that cover the woods and verges with carpets of yellow, which are glorious sights even for people who live here and witness them every year. However, we also have fantastic cycling along quiet country lanes with fabulous vistas of the Black Mountains, The Malverns, The Cotswold Hills and our iconic Mayhill, with tall pine trees on top commemorating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and our present queen's Silver Jubilee..
We extend a warm invitation for you to join us so that we can have the pleasure of your company and to show you our routes.
The program for the weekend will be formally announced over the next week when we will send out details of prices, the program and booking forms. We will not be offering indoor accommodation this year, but arrangements have been made for campervans to park in the lovely setting of the historical house of Helens just down the road from the hall. There is a good variety of accommodation in the near vicinity – the Much Marcle website has useful listings – www.muchmarcle.net – and there is more in Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye, each approx. 4 – 5 miles away. See www.comecyclingledbury.com for suggestions!
Please do not reply to this email because we are not fully ready yet to deal with enquiries, but we did want you to know about the event so that you could put it in your diaries. However, if you do not want us to send you further details, then we are happy to remove you from our next circulation, so please let us know on annfontbin@hotmail.com
With best wishes,
Pat Strauss and Ann Fontbin
Young Wheelers Award Scheme – Please email logbooks by 7 December!
If you wish to take part in this years Young Wheelers Award Scheme, please could you send me details of the activities that you or your offspring have been up to?
For members who are new to the Club or would like a refresher on how the scheme works just take a look at the 'YoungCW' page on the Wheelers website.
For those in a rush (that is, any parent) we have two award schemes. These are Distance Awards and Logbook Awards. The Distance Awards range from riding a lap of Castle Combe Circuit (1.9 miles) to 100 miles.
The Logbook awards are for accumulating points by taking part in various cycling or cycling related activities, such as a Time Trial, Leisure Ride, Marshalling or Making Tea.
The Awards themselves range from Red through to Gold and you receive a lovely certificate and badge (made of real metal!).
But of course the real benefit is the sense of achievement gained by taking part in the Scheme. If you need to be further convinced take a look at the photos in the Gallery of previous winners!
Remember, we only know what to award if you tell us. A simple email will suffice that just gives the date and activity whats been done. Simples! Email paul.freegard@chippenhamwheelers.org

Classic Bike meet – Sat 11 April
Calling all Classic Bike owners! Next meeting is Saturday 11 April at 2pm from Yatton Keyell. Contact John Else for more details.
Spin sessions
Due to popular demand, Mark Doodson has kindly arranged to extend the spin sessions to both Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout April. This can be extended into May if there is sufficient interest. It is acknowledged that many will be attending Castle Combe on a Tuesday night during the summer so spin may continue on just Thursday nights in the summer months. Check the club diary for the latest schedule.
Members are reminded that pre-registration is required as we are using the fantastic facility @MOD Corsham. Contact Mark at madoodson@gmail.com or via mobile 07541 203114 to request attendance.

New Year challenges
What are your challenges for 2015? First 100 mile ride, complete the club Audax series, avoid both the half-wheeling trophy and the crash of the year trophy?
Inspired by Tommy Godwin, In 2014, a few club mates set off to ride over 205 miles in a day. The account can be read here.
In 2015, Steve Abraham is embarking on beating the Tommy Godwin record of 75,065 miles in 365 days. Something mind bogglng in riding scale. You can follow the progress of this epic adventure at the site http://oneyeartimetrial.org.uk. Today for example, whilst a few of us did the kilo and a few others rode 105 miles to Cheddar and back (yes, you John and Simon), Steve Abraham rode 204 miles.
