The club received the very sad news recently that Win Bond, a highly thought of member of the Wheelers for many years, passed away on Friday 7th February. She was 99 years old and just 4 months short of her 100th birthday.
Win (or ‘Mrs Bond’ as some of us always called her) moved to the area from Devon along with her husband Dick Bond (club secretary for 25-years) in the early 1970’s and immediately both became a very big part of Chippenham Wheelers. Win was always out supporting an event and was most likely found serving the teas and cakes at the end of a race…and not in the comfort of a village hall as we know today, but in a cold, windy tent on a grassy patch at the side of the road somewhere…in all weather. She would also always be a part of the team doing the ‘signing-on’ at Castle Combe on Good Friday and would always help out with marshalling etc. Due to her continued support and her dedication helping the club, Win was honoured by being made a Vice-President of the Wheelers.
The club committee sends its condolences to the family and friends of Win on behalf of all members.
For anyone who would like to attend, the Funeral Service will take place at West Wiltshire Crematorium on Friday 14th March at 3pm. The family have requested ‘Family flowers only’, but donations in Win’s memory can be made to either ‘Talking Newspapers’ or the RNIB if you so wish.
