Our club audax series seems to have been as popular as ever this year. The 50km ride to Brinkworth in January seems a very long time ago now but 40 of us enjoyed a sunny but cold morning and a fair bit of cake as well. Attendance at the 75km in February was much depleted with strong winds to contend with coming home from Honeystreet Mill Café in the Pewsey Vale, but 17 hardy riders managed to complete the route.
In March, helped by our amazing volunteers, we hosted our open audax, Fletcher’s Flapjack, and welcomed 117 happy finishers back at the Sports Club for post-ride refreshments. We had fabulous spring weather for the 125km in April, where several groups enjoyed the ride out to Ramsbury and back through Great Bedwyn. A bit of huff and puff was needed on the hills, but a well earned lunch was enjoyed at Sticks and Stones Café in Woodborough. Finally we returned to our classic Cotswolds route for the 150km day trip to Bibury and its Trout Farm Café in May.
Provisional Audax Series Results
With 5 of our 7 audaxes completed the provisional audax results to date are in the table below. Medals are awarded at the end of the season for total distances ridden. Bronze for more than 350km, Silver for more than 500km and Gold for more than 750km. Congratulations to Jamie Brosch, Tom Laing, Dan Scott and Dylan Spencer for already achieving Silver. A further 9 of you are currently on Bronze. With the 175km and 200km rides still to come everyone has the potential to complete another 375km before the season is over!
Please do check your name in the results table further below and let us know if any updates are needed. Email Sheni through audax@chippenhamwheelers.org
Coming soon! Club 175km and 200km Audaxes
Next up is our 175km Audax visiting Sherborne Abbey on Sunday 12th June. Our 7th and final Audax will be the traditional Fish and Chip ride to the seaside, which is a full 200km randonnée, on Saturday 9th July. Route and entry details for these will be published in the website calendar 1-2 weeks before the dates.
If you can’t make the date but would still like to ride the route and have it count towards your medal award then remember you can do this by helping to check the route for us as a helper’s ride in the 2 weeks before the event – just get in touch with Sheni first.
Audax Shield Update
A number of our club members are also participating in other Audax UK events which, together with our own club audax events, count towards our club Audax Shield award for the furthest cumulative distance ridden over the year. Current standings are below. Rob Duncumb and Sheni Jiwa have achieved their AUK Super Randonneur award for the season having completed at least one each of 200km, 300, 400km and 600km distances. Please contact audax@chippenhamwheelers.org if you have any query on this list.
