Chippenham Talking Newspapers – Club Charity 2015 – Talk on Wednesday!

Note: Come to Club night this Wednesday 25 March to hear a short presentation from Talking Newspapers!

——–

We are pleased to announce Chippenham Talking Newspapers as the nominated charity for 2015 (Registered Charity 271904).

Every year we choose a new charity to support. Donations come via profits from events such as Midsummer Bike Night, our weekly tea and cake fund and also often by generous individual donations from our members. In previous years we have donated to Wiltshire Air Ambulance, Wiltshire Search and Rescue, Dorothy House Hospice, Age UK and Life Cycle.

Chippenham Talking Newspapers is a local charity run by volunteers, whose aim is to provide blind and partially sighted people access to local newspapers. The service is completely free to listeners and helps them keep in touch with what is happening in their local community.

There are three weekly editions for Chippenham, Malmesbury and Melksham. The focus is on local news from local newspapers such as the Gazette and Herald, Wilts and Glos Standard and Melksham Independent News.

Gwyn Rees who is Secretary of the charity is delighted to add the Wheelers to their list of supporters. Gwyn told us “We are currently working towards changing to a digital format, and replacing the cassettes with USB’s, this will be a major project and could not be more timely”.

We hope to arrange for a talk to be given at Club Night by Talking Newspapers in the near future.
