Audax series
The club Audax series continues tomorrow, 12th May with the 150k ride. This is a lovely ride up as far as Chedworth then down to Bibury for a traditional lunch stop. A gentle bimble back home through the water park avoiding all the main roads. Remember there are a couple of grippy bits after Winstone and Rendcomb, make sure the granny gear is working. The weather is looking good for Sunday so it should be a classic.
The 125k ride was a cold but dry affair. Attendance was low, we suspect as the previous day’s weather was terrible. Those that did brave it had a good hard ride but were rewarded by watching the closing kilometers of Paris-Roubaix with clubmates in at the Sports Club afterwards (and a few beers).
Our keen Audax members have been racking up the kilometers. Chapeau to Sheni who did the Buckingham Blinder 400km Audax and Brevet Cymru 400km the following week as qualifying events for Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP). Sheni was joined by Rob and James for the Welsh adventure. 20+ hour rides each of them.
Coaching
The coaching plan has been published and sessions at Castle Combe on a Tuesday night will now have started. Go-Ride was cancelled on Thursday 9th due to horrific weather and that session will be rescheduled.
Good Friday racing at Castle Combe
We had an amazing turnout for the Good Friday races at Castle Combe on 19th April. We were blessed with good weather so attendance was high and the picnics were out. This year the schedule included a hand cycle race for the first time which was great to see. “Thank you” to Andy and Jacqui for organising the event (again) plus all the club members who helped with the many tasks involved.
Sports and Social Club Open Day
The club was represented for the first time at the Sports and Social Club open day on Easter Sunday. Again, blessed with great weather attendance to the event was in the thousands. All the Sports Club “Sections” were represented and children had a card that could be stamped for participating in the various section demos. Our tent had a Watt Bike challenge, the challenge to be within 3 seconds of Mr Secretary on a 200m sprint. The club bar apparently ran out of brewed recovery drink in the early afternoon! Good event and we will be back for more in 2020.
Racing
The racing continues with the Wednesday evening time-trial series. The lottery 2-up took place on 8th May and write up can be found here.
That’s your May news. Whatever and wherever you ride, ride safe.
