Club Rides are back from 5th December!

Following the Government’s latest announcements we are delighted to announce we are resuming our club ride program from 5th December, just in time for the festive season! We have an exciting program of rides for you, including a brand new local off-road route, a super introductory ride for newer members as well as our traditional Christmas Eve and Boxing Day rides. More details on these further below.

We’ll be following our same procedures as before the lockdown, so ask everyone to please remember these to keep us all COVID-safe:

  • Pre-enter on-line through the link in the calendar event page
  • Groups of no more than 6 arranged at the start of the ride by our Ride Organiser on the day
  • One Ride Coordinator per group to help us stay COVID-safe on the ride
  • Everyone continue to follow our COVID Code of Conduct (see on-line entry form)

The only  difference from before is we’ll avoid routes that go into Tier 3 areas (currently South Gloucestershire, Bristol and North Somerset).

Off-road ride Saturday 5th December – Kings Heath and the Fosse Way

After a lot of exploration and testing we are excited to bring you a local gravel route around the by-ways and trails north of Chippenham, The route has 14 miles of gravel tracks in total including the by-ways across Kings Heath, near Malmesbury and a good section of the Fosse Way that will take us past the ancient Roman settlement of Easton Grey. Those Romans knew how to build an excellent gravel trail for 21st century cyclists! If you fancy trying this get your MTB or gravel bikes dusted off, but make sure you have the right tyres.

New members Introductory Ride Sunday 6th December – Sherston and Leighterton

We have two rides setting off at 9.30am and 9.45am on Sunday 6th December. The shorter ride is 27 miles to Sherston whilst the longer one is 38 miles to Leighterton. Both routes will stop at a cafe in Sherston for the essential coffee and cake. The shorter route is designed as an ideal introduction for new or prospective members wanting to try their first group ride. There will be a Ride Coordinator for each group who will make sure no-one is left behind, so if you fancy trying your first club ride come and give it a go.

See the event pages for further details:
Shorter route to Sherston for new members
Longer route to Leighterton

Non-members wanting to try a ride are asked to email leisureride@chippenhamwheelers.org in advance just to let us know. You are welcome to come and give it a go, with no charge for the first few rides, although we would expect you to join as a member if you want to become a regular with us.

Christmas Eve and Boxing Day Rides

Barring any further change in the rules we plan to ride our traditional Christmas Eve family ride and our Boxing Day Imber challenge ride. We aim to keep to the usual format for these, but in groups of no more than 6. On Christmas Eve we’ll be starting and finishing at the Sports Club.
