Club Annual Dinner
We start this newsletter with a BIG thank you to the organisers of our Club Annual Dinner and Awards night. What a fab evening. Thanks also to our guest speaker Julie Harrington from British Cycling, our fab DJ Jay from EventiMate and the club members who attended from near and far. What a mad, fab bunch you all are. Highlights include Sheni winning the dance trophy, Jeremy Tyzack winning the crash of the year trophy, John Else winning the cross toasting dragons tongue trophy and Paul Winchcombe winning just about everything else. Have I missed anyone?
Audax series
A reminder that the next instalment of the Audax series continues with the 75km route on 17th February. This is a changed route from previous years and misses out the run into Devizes. Instead, we will be visiting the lovely Honey Street Mill Cafe, a regular stop for many club riders since it opened last year. Very cyclist friendly. We had a great turn out for the 50km event in January with about 60 riders at the new start, the Chippenham Sports and Social Club. Quite a few members took advantage of the brewed recovery drink on offer at the end of the ride too.
Skittles night
On Saturday 23rd February, we will have a skittles night at the Sports and Social Club. See separate story for more information including links to reserve tickets. The last time we had a skittles night, we had a fantastic turn out. This time we have the new club room to celebrate.
White Horse Weekend
A club event we organise every three years is the White Horse Weekend, a relaxed gathering of cyclists from across the UK, featuring leisurely rides, social get-togethers, and plenty of tea and cake. This tri-annual event started way back in the 1970s but – just like so many things in life – gets better with age, and we hope to carry on that tradition for this year’s event. Please see calendar event for more information including format for the rides. We will be sending out requests for assistance nearer the time. The usual selection of help at village halls for refreshments and ride leaders will be needed.
Wednesday night socials
Club night has always been on a Wednesday night where you can talk about bikes, about the rides just done and the rides coming up, you get the picture. Now at the new club room, these evenings are increasingly popular with a steady flow of members there for a drink and a natter. All members always welcome.
That’s your February news. Remember the 3-Fs of cycling – Friends, Fitness and Fresh-air. Whatever and wherever you ride, ride safe.
