The grand finalé of our Audax Series! It’s our annual trip to the seaside for Fish & Chips by the Grand Pier at Weston Super-mare. Entry fee for club members £1 (non-members £2). Please bring the exact change to drop in our container at the start. The registration desk will be open from 7.10am onwards by the tennis courts. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the start to pay your entry fee and collect your brevet card. Please note that attendance of this ride requires advanced booking. Please use this simple booking form. The form is a mandatory for all riders, so the organiser knows who and how many to expect and so we have a record of everyone riding on the day. Your cooperation to complete this in advance of the ride will be much appreciated. The 7th and final event in our series of audax rides – a full 200km randonnée. The route takes us out to Chew Magna for our first information control and then over to our morning stop at Salt and Malt café right next to Chew Valley Lake. The route then takes us past Bristol Airport for a super descent down to the levels. It’s easy riding from here until just before Clevedon, but the short climb is worth it for the views of its Victorian pier where you’ll need to find our second info control. There’s more easy riding across the levels to Yatton railway station where we briefly pick up the Strawberry Line cycle path. After a short section of the A370 we head across more levels through Wick St Lawrence and take the Kewstoke Road passing the old Birnbeck Pier and onto the seafront at Weston-super-Mare. We stop for lunch right opposite the Grand Pier. Get yourself a takeway from any of the fish and chip shops and sit outside on the grass bank near the fountain. After lunch we leave Weston via Uphill, heading east to Loxton for our 3rd info control and then onwards through Axbridge and into and up through Cheddar Gorge with its impressive limestone cliffs. It’s a steady climb up to the top of the Mendips. In proper audax style we’ll take a brief rest at the petrol station in Chilcompton before dropping down to Kilmersdon for our 4th and final info control. The route then takes us along the beautifully serene Colliers Way for a few kms before turning towards home. Arrivée will be at the Harp and Crown Inn in Gastard where we plan to have a controller waiting to check you in. Weather permitting we’ll be in the pub garden at the rear, or in the bar area if not. Everyone is welcome to stop for a drink to round off our Audax series in appropriate style! The questions for the Information Controls will be in your brevet card – don’t forget your pencil to note down the answer, or just take a photo and write it in when you get to the finish.
